• Check the latest weather, road conditions, fire restrictions, tides, and wildlife notices that apply to the area.
• Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return, especially when traveling alone or beyond cell coverage.
• Save directions offline, charge your phone, and make sure you have enough fuel or battery range for the return trip.
• Bring more warmth, water, and light than you think you will need. Temperatures can drop quickly after sunset.

Follow every posted sign and respect gates, private property, quiet hours, and restricted areas. Never cross a closure or assume that an unmarked path is public.

• Park completely off active roads and never block gates, driveways, trailheads, or emergency access.
• Use a dim red light when practical. It protects night vision and avoids disrupting other visitors.
• Stay on durable surfaces, keep a safe distance from wildlife and cliff edges, and leave the place as you found it.
• When possible, visit unfamiliar or remote places with another person and keep essential supplies within reach.

If a road, trail, weather change, or situation feels unsafe, turn around. The stars will still be there another night.
